Andrea has over thirty years experience as an R.N. with the last ten in Ophthalmology. She works in the Minor Procedure Unit at St. John of God Subiaco where patients have Intravitreal Injections as well as Northern Eye Surgeons as one of the practice nurses.

Jo is a Registered Nurse working at Fremantle Hospital’s Eye Clinic. The last 12 years of her career have been dedicated to Ophthalmology where she has experienced all areas her specialist field has to offer.

Naomie worked in ophthalmics/anaesthetics for 20 years, but in the last 8 years she has developed a passion for ocular plastics and paediatrics. Naomi has been an AONA member for 10 years and on the committee for 5 years.

After graduating nursing, the operating theatre beckoned. Cheryl became immersed into Ophthalmology and after twenty-five years has not looked back. She currently works at Fremantle Hospital.

Karen Curtis

Karen trained as an RN in the UK back in 1992. Her Ophthalmology experience both here in Australia and the UK covers Theatre, day care ward and for the last eight years outpatient clinics. She is currently working in a private clinic specialising in Retinal, Glaucoma, Paediatric and Neurology Ophthalmology.

Jennie was drawn into Ophthalmology 17 years ago, and she is currently enjoying the mix of working in theatres at Perth Eye Hospital and in the clinic at Joondalup Eye Clinic.

Agnes Belcher

Agnes is currently working as a clinical nurse coordinator in ophthalmology and pain management unit. She joined the AONA WA committee two years ago. Agnes holds a post-graduate diploma in human resource management and specialised in Industrial Law.

Thirty five years ago Cathy got her first job in theatre and never left. Having worked in many areas including orthopaedics, she now enjoys the gentle world of ophthalmics.

Chirstine Downes

Christine has been part of the AONAWA committee for a year. She helps out where she can and shares the role of organising Sponsorship. Her journey started in the optometry world, which lead her to ophthalmology. She works in private practices as an ophthalmic clinic assistant and loves it.

Therese is a registered nurse at Lions Eye Institute. She works mainly in the clinic dealing with retinal, glaucoma and oculoplastic patients.

Sarah Burke

Sarah Burke

Committee Member

Sarah loves hitting the beach before work. She is a retired ADF photographer and has ten years Perioperative OSH Rep/Nurse experience including Gen Surg, emergency, Opthalmics and hand trauma. She is the recipient of the 2019 SMHS Safety Leadership Achievement Award in addition to being a volunteer for The International Coalition To End Transplant Abuse In China (ETAC).
